urban design study vydrica-district, bratislava
1995 entry europan

By reconstructing the historical town centre and the relations between the castle and the vydrica district, and the district and the town centre, barriers between the several urban parts are ought to be removed. This interpretation of the Vydrica-district, which is about 60,000 m2, covers both habitable constructions, hotels and shopping areas. The shopping areas are also accesible to surrounding districts. Level -1, the enlengthed promenade from the historical town centre, is programmatically seen as a public area, covering functions as shops, restaurants and cafés, the entrance to a boulevardhotel and places for touristical information. Also, enough parking space is provided. Level 0 covers the boulevard, which runs along the river and the ruin, offering the same function as Level -1 does. These functions, however, are oriented towards the river and the square, which contains the ruin. The L-shaped constructions all have the same organisation: shops and restaurants or cafés at ground level and parking spaces at the rearside; apartments and offices on the higher floors, which can be used for both functions due to the constructions and facilities of each floor. Both towers offer several public services at floorlevel 0 and +3.
